Art and creativity are my lifelong passions. I have a degree in Fine Art from The University of California Santa Cruz, as well as further education through the Interior Design program at the University of California Los Angeles. Because I am also a credentialed teacher, I have excellent communication skills and am able to articulate how I translate my creative visions into reality. My areas of expertise include: creating works of fine art, staging and decorating homes, and designing gardens and outdoor spaces. I also love to draw and paint realistic works of art.
One of my greatest joys is guiding students through the process of translating their creative visions into reality. Currently, I teach art through The Santa Cruz Mountain Art Center's Art After School program at Brook Knoll Elementary, in Scotts Valley.
In my artwork, I bring a painterly approach to multiple mediums. My realistically rendered images are created largely through the use of chalk pastels, soft woodless pencils, oil paints, or layered colored pencils. My aim as an artist is to bring a sculptural quality to two dimensional images.
Through my art, I explore color, shape, chiaroscuro (the treatment of light and shade) and the delicate dance of light and dark. My influences include: Caravaggio, Edward Hopper and Johannes Vermeer. While portraiture and figurative art are my primary interests, recently I have been recreating nature in my work as well. So, much of my recent work also features plants and animals.
In addition to my originally created art pieces, I am also available for commissioned pieces.
Breathing new life and style into an existing space is my passion. I will examine both the indoor and outdoor areas of your home. Then, together we will work within your budget to make your space look and feel it's very best.
My clients are often shocked and delighted to discover the (previously hidden) potential for beauty in their homes.
In my design work I use many elements to create beautiful spaces. I skillfully incorporate the items you already own, and I also make suggestions for new additions. Whether you are preparing to put your home on the market, or just looking for a fresh new style, you will be thrilled with the results.
